Review: The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Emma Saylor doesn't remember a lot about her mother, who died when Emma was twelve. But she does remember the stories her mom told her about the big lake that went on forever, with cold, clear water and mossy trees at the edges.

Now it's just Emma and her dad, and life is good, if a little predictable...until Emma is unexpectedly sent to spend the summer with her mother's family that she hasn't seen since she was a little girl.

When Emma arrives at North Lake, she realizes there are actually two very different communities there. Her mother grew up in working class North Lake, while her dad spent summers in the wealthier Lake North resort. The more time Emma spends there, the more it starts to feel like she is also divided into two people. To her father, she is Emma. But to her new family, she is Saylor, the name her mother always called her.

Then there's Roo, the boy who was her very best friend when she was little. Roo holds the key to her family's history, and slowly, he helps her put the pieces together about her past. It's hard not to get caught up in the magic of North Lake- and Saylor finds herself falling under Roo's spell as well.

For Saylor, it's like a whole new world is opening up to her. But when it's time to go back home, which side of her- Emma or Saylor- will win out?

I enjoyed reading this book. I found it to be interesting. I thought the book was written very well. This is the first book I have read by Sarah Dessen. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Review: Brave Love: Making Space for You to Be You by Lisa Leonard

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Women today feel pressure to be the best wife, mom, and professional possible - often at the expense of  their own identity. But what if you could experience deep peace- knowing you are loved right now, just as you are? In Brave Love, the founder of the multi- million dollar company Lisa Leonard Designs inspires women to find themselves again amidst the noise and competing demands of real life.

Brave Love is about what it means to be human, how it feels to be broken and afraid, and what happens when we dare to love deeply. Join Lisa on a journey where you will discover you  are worthy and lovable just as you are. You don't have to try harder or be better. You don't have to prove yourself and you don't have to make others okay. In this freedom you will find more peace  and more joy. Most importantly you will learn that as you stop trying to be everything to everyone, you will love others better.

Wow this book is amazing. I loved it.  I couldn't put this book down. I would highly recommend it. I felt this story was real  and honest. The author did a wonderful job writing it.

Review: God Moments for Women by Carolyn Larsen

Here is a summary of what the book is about. With the stress of everyday life, spending time with the Lord can be challenging. This devotional makes it easy to find just a couple minutes to spend time with the Lord no matter where you are. Use it to reconnect with God whenever you feel moved.

I absolutely loved this little book. It is a short quick read. I found it to be very inspirational. I believe every woman should read this book. The devotions are only a page long. You can put this book in a coat pocket or a handbag and carry it with you wherever you go to connect with God. I would highly recommend this book.

Review: Eyes on Me by Rachel Harris

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Look up the word "nerd" and you'll find Lily Bailey's picture. She's got one goal: first stop valedictorian, next stop Harvard. Until a stint in the hospital from too much stress lands her in the last place a klutz like her ever expected to be: salsa dance lessons.

Look up the word "popular" and you'll find Stone Torres's picture. His life seems perfect- star of the football team, small- town hero, lots of friends. But his family is struggling to make ends meet, so if pitching in at his mom's dance studio helps, he'll do it.

When Lily's dad offers Stone extra cash to volunteer as Lily's partner, he can't refuse. But with each dip and turn, each moment her hand is in his, his side job starts to feel all too real. Lily shows Stone he's more than his impressive football stats, and he introduces her to a world outside of studying. But with the lines blurred, can their relationship survive the secret he's been hiding?

I absolutely loved this book. I just love a happy ending. I thought this book was well written. I love all of Rachel Harris books. I am looking forward to reading more books by her.

Review: What Happens in France by Carol Wyer

Here is a summary of what the book is about. She stood and took her place in front of the camera... It was now or never" Bryony Masters has been looking for her long- lost sister, Hannah, for years, but when their father has a stroke her search takes on  new urgency. So when primetime game show, What Happens in France, puts a call- out for new contestants, Bryony spots the ultimate public platform to find her reality TV - obsessed sister, and finally reunite their family.

Review: Throne of Grace (Cliff Walk Courtships Book 1) by Cecily Wolfe

Arthur Davenport has it all: looks, money, and a successful future planned by his parents. He knows that something is missing, but when he and Josie, his mother's maid, develop a friendship that can only be based on Christian values, he realizes that his love for her is the key to his happiness. Can he convince her that he would gladly give up his life of luxury for a life of service with her?

Newport Rhode Island in the last decades of the nineteenth century was a stunningly beautiful and glamorous playground for the rich during the summer months, and perfect setting for a romance between a rich young man from New York City and a local girl who works for his family. The two couldn't possibly expect to have anything in common, as he is expected to follow his father in a financial career and she is merely a maid with a mother who takes care of  local children while their parents work.

Arthur Davenport spoiled and bored, unsure  of his place in his family and in the eyes pf God, truly meets his match in Josie Warren, who is often just a nit hard on herself for not being the perfect Christian in thought as well as deed. The two meet on the famous Cliff Walk, and neither of them can imagine where or how their instant attraction will take them as he struggles to make his parents understand that his calling is the same as hers, to help those less fortunate. He has no money of his own, and if they disinherit him out of disapproval, how can he help Josie, who has spent her life working hard to help support herself and her mother?  More importantly, how can he convince her that he would gladly give up his life of luxury just to be with her?

Wow what a truly amazing book. I absolutely loved it. I couldn't put it down. It is so sweet and romantic. I would highly recommend this book. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

Review: The Competition by Cecily Wolfe

Here is a summary of what the book is about. For Mary Sofia, The Penultimate writing competition is more than a chance at a free college education; she wants to show her younger siblings that they can all rise above their violent family history. For Raiden, the pressure to succeed comes from within, although he knows that family traditions play a part in his determination.

For Camara, writing fiction is almost compulsive, but her own dark secret maybe the best story she can ever tell. For Michael, swimming and writing fit his introverted personality perfectly, but meeting a smart and beautiful girl at The Penultimate makes stepping outside of his comfort zone easy.

All four will compete against each other along with 96 other high school juniors for the chance of a lifetime: a full scholarship to a prestigious private college. Some students will do anything to win, but others may pay the price.

I thought this book was well written. It was a very interesting story. I found some unexpected twists in this book.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.
