Review: The Lost and Found Bookshop by Susan Wiggs

 

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Somewhere in the vast Library of the Universe, as Natalie thought of it, there was a book that embodied exactly the things she was worrying about. 

In the wake of a shocking tragedy, Natalie Harper inherits her mother's charming but financially strapped bookshop in San Francisco. She also becomes caretaker for her ailing grandfather Andrew, her only living relative-not counting her scoundrel father.

But the gruff, deeply kind Andrew has begun displaying signs of decline, Natalie thinks its best to move him to an assisted living facility to ensure the care he needs.  To pay for it, she plans to close the bookstore and sell the derelict but valuable building on historic Perdita Street, which is in need of constant fixing. 

There's only one problem-grandpa Andrew owns the building and refuses to sell. Natalie adores her grandfather, she'll do whatever it takes to make his final years happy. Besides, she loves the store and it's books provide welcome solace for her overwhelming grief.

After she moves into the small studio apartment above the shop, Natalie carries out her grandfather's request and hires contractor Peach Gallagher to do the necessary and ongoing repairs. His young daughter, Dorothy, also becomes a regular at the store, and she and Natalie begin reading together while peach works.

To Natalie's surprise, her sorrow begins to dissipate as her life becomes an unexpected journey of new connections, discoveries and revelations, from unearthing artifacts hidden in the bookshop's walls, to discovering the truth about her family. her future, and her own heart.

I enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was written very well. I just love the cover go this book. I enjoyed the characters in the story.  I would recommend this book.

Review: Real Men Knit by Kwana Jackson

 Here is a summary of what the book is about.  When their foster- turned- adoptive mother suddenly dies, four brothers struggle to keep open the doors of her beloved Harlem knitting shop.

Jesse Strong is known for two things: his devotion to his adoptive mom, Mama Joy, and his reputation for breaking hearts. When Mama Joy unexpectedly passes away, he and his brothers have different plans for what to do with Strong Knits their neighborhood knitting store. Jesse wants to keep the store open. His brothers want to tie off loose ends and close shop....

Part time shop employee Kerry Fuller has kept her crush on Jesse a secret. When she overhears his impassioned plea to his brothers to keep the knitting shop open, she volunteers to help. Unlike Jesse, Kerry knows the "kitty-gritty" of the business, and together they make plans to reinvent Strong Knits for a new generation.

But the more time they spend together, the stronger the chemistry builds between,  Kerry, knowing Jesse's history, doesn't believe their relationship can last longer than she can knit one, purl two. But Jesse is determined to prove to her that he can be the man for her forever and always. After all, real men knit.

I enjoyed reading this book. I love knitting so I had to read this book. There is a little romance in this story. I thought it was a cute story.

Review: Sticks and Stones by Dianne Beck

 Here is a summary of what the book is about. When fifteen-year-old Emily Greene wakes up to police banging in her door, she is shocked to see her mother arrested on drug charges. Uprooted and in disbelief, Emily moves to a new town to stay with grandmother, known as Crazy Carol for her outspoken faith and quirky behaviors.

As if the arrest isn't enough, kids at her new school immediately begin to stereotype and judge her based on the news they've heard about her mom.

Emily is sure her mother's fiancé is to blame for the crime. He has conveniently disappeared since the day of the arrest. She's determined to find him, and prove he's as fault. But something awful happens, shaking her world yet again.

After this string of tragedies, Emily starts to question God, but is gently and consistently reminded by her grandmother, through stories she tells of all the sticks, leaves, and stones she collects, that God is her good and faithful parent.

Emily must learn that the words other say about her don't matter, that her mom's mistakes don't define her, and she is always deeply loved by her heavenly father. If only she can learn to forgive herself.

This is a gripping story with some twists and turns in it. I honestly  wasn't sure about this book because of the title  but I took a chance. I liked the story. It will grab you from the very first page. It is a real page turner. I couldn't put it down. I think the moral of the story is no matter what happens in life God is always there. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Review: Once Upon a Date (Do-Over Date Series Book 6) by Susan Hatler

Here is  a summary of what the book is about. It wasn't a glass slipper that Michelle Moss left behind at the Masquerade Ball, but a beat up laptop. Her driver remained human, her ride didn't turn into a pumpkin, and thank goodness she didn't see any mice waiting for her in her condo. But Michelle did spontaneously kiss her masked Prince Charming and was determined to find him.

Tracking down her missing laptop using a locator app, she fully expected birds to sing, rice to fall from the sky, and the credits to roll when she found her potential true love. Instead, she found the editor, Brooks Keller, who rejected her modern fairytale manuscript. He told her the book was unrealistic, unimaginable, and unpublishable. Oh, and he's also the ex who dumped her in high school.

Michelle urgently needs the book advance to bail her not-so-wicked but irresponsible stepbrother out of a financial mess. But she doesn't want to change her fairytale ending. So, Michelle and Brooks make a deal: they will retrace her character's steps from the book and if Brooks falls head over heels for Michelle then Brooks will publish the book Michelle's way. If not, then Michelle will make the requested changes.

As Michelle tests out the life she always dreamed of, she discovers the chemistry with Brooks is still there after all these years. She knows Brooks is only playing the part of the hero, but everything feels so real. If she acts on her feelings, though, will he break her heart a second time?

I just love short sweet clean romance book. The Do-Over Date series by Susan Hatler makes me happy. This book was written well. I love the characters of this series. It was a cute story.  I am looking forward to reading more book by this author.

Review: Of Literature and Lattes by Katherine Reay

 Here is a summary of what the book is about . After fleeing her hometown three years earlier, Alyssa Harrison never planned to return. Then the Silicon Valley start - up she worked for collapsed and turned her world upside down. She is broke, under FBI investigation, and without a place to go. Having exhausted every option, she comes home to Winsome, Illinois, to regroup and move on as quickly as possible.

Yet as friends and family welcome her back, Alyssa begins to see a place for herself in this small Midwestern community. 

Jeremy Mitchell moved from Seattle to Winsome to be near his daughter and to open the coffee shop he's been dreaming of for years. Problem is, the business is bleeding money-and he's not quite sure why. When he meets Alyssa, he senses an immediate connection, but what he needs most is someone to help him save his floundering business. After asking for her help, he wonders if something might grow between them- but forces beyond their control soon complicate their already complex lives, and the future they both hoped for is not at all what they anticipated. With the help of Winsome's small-town charm and quirky residents, Alyssa and Jeremy discover the beauty and romance of second chances.

I thought this was a cute and sweet story. There are some twists and turns in it. I thought it was written well. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Oh my goodness this is a really good book. It grabs you from the first chapter and won't let go. I could not put this book down. I really enjoyed reading this book. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

Review: Fashionably Date (Do-Over Date Series Book 5) by Susan Hatler

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Hoping for a fresh start after her ex - fianc'e cheats on her before the wedding, supermodel Missy Peters moves to a new city and opens an upscale clothing boutique. When a puppy darts into traffic during her morning coffee run, Missy rushes to save the innocent pooch, only to be rescued herself when gym owner Nick Zambini pulls her out of harms way.

I just love Susan Hatler books. I thought the book was written well. It is a short sweet clean romance novel.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series but I don't want the series to end. There are six books in the series. Book six comes out on July 30th. I would recommend this book.

Here is a summary of what the book is about. I found this book on a book website and I fell in love with the cover. I knew I just had to buy it.

It is a wonderful story. I will make you fall in love with reading. I can spend hours in a bookstore. I love the characters and the feel of community. I would recommend this book.

Review: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

Here is a summary of what the book is about. From the moment she entered the world, Francie Nolan needed to be made of stern stuff, for the often harsh life of Williamsburg demanded fortitude, precocity, and strength of spirit. This book was written a long time ago. When I was in high school it was required reading. I am glad I read this book again. It is a classic. The book gives a glimpse of what life was like back then in 1912 and beyond how people lived. After reading this book it makes you grateful for the things you have today.

Review: Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber

I have to be honest I started this book a year ago and forgot about it because I was busy with life. I enjoyed this book. I thought it was written very well. There are some twists and turns in the story. I just love Debbie Macomber books.

Review: Date to the Rescue(Do-Over Date Series Book 4) by Susan Hatler

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Super organized Lucy Remington is done getting burned by unreliable men, so she's giving up hot and spicy and holding out for reliable and responsible. I am loving this series and the characters. I found the story to be sweet, cute, charming, and fun. I just love happy endings. I am almost done with this series. There is one more book in the series but it doesn't come out until May 26th.

Review: The Date Next Door (Do-Over Date Series Book 3) by Susan Hatler

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Carefree Hannah Griffin's life is on track: she's spending time with friends and working to win over her new boss at work after a substantial promotion. Soon, however, disaster strikes, when a potential client refuses to answer her calls. Then Hannah's long-time and unrequited crush, super polished Blake Remington moves in next door.

Hannah has ignored her feelings for her best friend's older brother by keeping her distance, but now he's popping by every day. When Blake reveals he has an extra ticket to a couple's golf tournament, Hannah discovers her potential client will be there and offers to be Blake's date. Well I am almost done with this series.  I love the characters in these books. I thought the story was written very well. It's sweet and cute and fun. Susan Hatler is my favorite author.

Review: The Double Date Disaster (Do-Over Date Series Book 2) by Susan Hatler

Here is a summary of what the book is about. City girl Jennifer Page works sixteen - hour days and has little time for love. But when her best friend proposes they go on a blind  double date, Jennifer doesn't hesitate to say yes. What's better for her overworked soul than time with her best friend, and a new sushi restaurant, and a cute guy?

Outdoor adventurist Dylan Douglas is surprised when his blind date shows up for whitewater rafting dressed to the nines in high heels. Turns out the only experience she has with the outdoors is when she almost got eaten by a bear as a kid. Despite the mix-up, Jennifer continues with the date and Dylan admires her spunk.

Jennifer and Dylan have little in common, but he turns out to be fun and insightful. As they spend time together, Jennifer realizes an adventurist girl has been hiding inside her this whole time. Will their differences tear them apart or teach them that a rafting disaster can turn into the love of a lifetime?

I thought this was a cute sweet story. I could not put it down. Susan Hatler is a wonderful writer. I just love her books. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Review: A Million Dollar Date (Do-Over Date Series Book 1) by Susan Hatler

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Abigail Apple is running late to meet her blind date when she's pulled over for speeding. Unfortunately, the follow-the-rules cop doesn't care that she's late, let alone that she's heartbroken because her favorite dog rescue is in danger of being closed. Now she has to meet her date with mud drying on her heels, dog hair covering her dress, and the smell of a barn perfuming her hair.

When she arrives, however, Abigail learns her handsome blind date is none other than the cop who pulled her over. Abigail has no intention of staying until she learns Cooper Hill is heading a committee for the city that will award a six-figure donation to a charity of their choice. So, what's a girl to do? Abigail decides a second date is the perfect way to convince Cooper to vote for the dog rescue. Soon, however Abigail is less interested in Cooper's vote than she is in his deep voice, kind heart, and tender touch.

Will this follow-the-rules cop and this follows-her-heart animal lover learn that despite poor first impressions, second chances can lead to love?

When you read on of Susan Hatler's book you know it is going to be good clean fun. I enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was written well. I could not put it down. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

If you are looking for adventure, romance, history, faith. Then look no further than The Oregon Trail. This book has nine stories in it. Filled with adventure and faith and hard times and romance.

Sioux Summer by Jennifer Uhlarki.

From the very first story I was hooked. I could not put this book down. It grabs you from the first page. I loved these stories. I would recommend this book.

Review: Christmas Jars by Jason F. Wright

 Here is a summary of what the book is about. I really enjoyed reading this book. I could not put it down. The message is a reminder of what Christmas is really about and that is to help people who are in need. I would recommend this book to everyone. It’s a touching story.

Review: The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Meet Nina Hill: A young woman supremely confident in her own... shell. The only child of a single mother, Nina has her life just as she wants it: a job in a bookstore, a kick-butt trivia team, a world-class planner and a cat named Phil. If she sometimes suspects there might be more to life than reading, she just shrugs and picks up a new book.

When the father Nina never knew existed suddenly dies, leaving behind innumerable sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews, Nina is horrified. They all live close by! They're all-or mostly all-excited to meet her! She'll have to Speak. To. Strangers. It's a disaster! And as if that wasn't enough, Tom, her trivia nemesis, has turned out to be cute, funny, and deeply interested in getting to know her. Doesn't he realize what a terrible idea that is?

Nina considers her potions. 1. Completely change her name and appearance. (Too drastic, plus she likes her hair.) 2. Flee to a deserted island. (Hard pass, see: coffee). 3. Hide in a corner of her apartment and rock back and forth. (Already doing it.)

It's time for Nina to come out of her comfortable shell, but she isn't convinced real life could ever live up to fiction. It's going to take a brand-new family, a persistent suitor, and the combined effects of ice cream and trivia to make her turn her own fresh page.

I absolutely loved this book. It's the kind of book that grabs you from the very first page. I also love the cover of this book. Yes I am one of those people who picks books to read that have pretty or cute covers.

I can totally relate to the character Nina because she is a planner just like me. I love that she works in a bookstore. I thought the book was written very well. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Here is a summary of what the book is about. When she receives news that her grandfather has broken his wrist driving through a Dunkin Donuts- literally straight through the front windows- five hundred miles away, in her hometown of Autumnboro, New Hampshire, Amy has no choice but to return to check on him. As the two reconnect, a second chance seems possible... if only Kit weren't holding on to a secret that just might unravel everything.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is the perfect book to read for fall. I did not want the story to end. I thought it was well written. I just love happy endings. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Review: The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Emma Saylor doesn't remember a lot about her mother, who died when Emma was twelve. But she does remember the stories her mom told her about the big lake that went on forever, with cold, clear water and mossy trees at the edges.

Now it's just Emma and her dad, and life is good, if a little predictable...until Emma is unexpectedly sent to spend the summer with her mother's family that she hasn't seen since she was a little girl.

When Emma arrives at North Lake, she realizes there are actually two very different communities there. Her mother grew up in working class North Lake, while her dad spent summers in the wealthier Lake North resort. The more time Emma spends there, the more it starts to feel like she is also divided into two people. To her father, she is Emma. But to her new family, she is Saylor, the name her mother always called her.

Then there's Roo, the boy who was her very best friend when she was little. Roo holds the key to her family's history, and slowly, he helps her put the pieces together about her past. It's hard not to get caught up in the magic of North Lake- and Saylor finds herself falling under Roo's spell as well.

For Saylor, it's like a whole new world is opening up to her. But when it's time to go back home, which side of her- Emma or Saylor- will win out?

I enjoyed reading this book. I found it to be interesting. I thought the book was written very well. This is the first book I have read by Sarah Dessen. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Review: God Moments for Women by Carolyn Larsen

Here is a summary of what the book is about. With the stress of everyday life, spending time with the Lord can be challenging. This devotional makes it easy to find just a couple minutes to spend time with the Lord no matter where you are. Use it to reconnect with God whenever you feel moved.

I absolutely loved this little book. It is a short quick read. I found it to be very inspirational. I believe every woman should read this book. The devotions are only a page long. You can put this book in a coat pocket or a handbag and carry it with you wherever you go to connect with God. I would highly recommend this book.

Review: Eyes on Me by Rachel Harris

Here is my honest opinion about this book. I thought it was a cute story. I enjoyed reading it. I thought it was written well. I just love happy endings.

Review: Throne of Grace (Cliff Walk Courtships Book 1) by Cecily Wolfe

Wow what a truly amazing book. I absolutely loved it. I couldn't put it down. It is so sweet and romantic. I would highly recommend this book. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

Happy Thanksgiving

I just want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving dinner with their friends and family. I have a busy day of cooking my parents are coming over for dinner. It has been a while since I have had Thanksgiving with my mom. I always went to my in laws house when I lived in Hawaii. Anyway I am thankful for my family and my husband and God. Review: The Competition by Cecily Wolfe

Here is a summary of what the book is about. I thought this book was well written. It was a very interesting story. I found some unexpected twists in this book.

Reading Progress Update

Well I managed to do some reading while on vacation. I have read 54% of the book Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber. I will be posting a review soon. Tomorrow my husband and I return home. We had a great time while on vacation visiting family and doing fun things. I hope everyone has a good week.

Vacation Time

In just a few hours my husband and I will be leaving for the airport we are going on vacation to Hawaii. We will return on the 26th. So I don't know how much reading  and  blog updating I will be doing because of all the fun we will be having. We are going to attend a friend's wedding. It's kind of funny I lived in Hawaii for 16 years and now I am going back as a tourist.  I hope everyone is having a good week. See you all in a week.

Review: The Distance Between Us by Georgie Capron

Here is a summary of what the book is about. Tasha knows that she should count her blessings: married for eleven years, mother to three healthy children, she should be content with her lot. However, feelings of frustration have  settled over her like a dark cloud.

I found this book to be very insightful. It deals with issues that could really happen in marriages.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was very well written. The author did a good job.

Blog Update

Well I did it. I finished my online class I was taking yesterday.  It was interesting. I did learn a lot but it didn't really apply to me with the business I am doing. I started the class on February 13, 2018.  The class is called Starting Your Own Business Online and it was through Penn Foster.  No more studying for me. Now I can focus on my knitting business and do other fun things. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Review: Are You There God? It's Me Margaret by Judy Blume

Here is a summary of what the book is about: Margaret Simon, almost twelve, has just moved from New York City to the suburbs, and she's anxious to fit in with her new friends.

When she's  asked to join a secret club she jumps at the chance. But when the girls start talking about boys, bras, and getting their first periods, Margaret starts to wonder if she's normal.

There are some things about growing up that are hard for her to talk about, even with her friends. Lucky for Margaret, she's got someone else to confide in... someone who always listens.

This is my first time reading anything by Judy Blume. I have to say I believe I will read more books by her.

I absolutely loved this book. It is a great reminder that we have one really good friend who we can always talk to and that is God. He will never leave us and he will always listen.

This book reminded me of all of the things we all went through when we were Margaret age.

 I found this book to be funny at times.

I would recommend this book for any age.

Review: Midnight Sun by Trish Cook

Here is a summary of what the book is about: Seventeen-year-old Katie Price has a rare disease that makes exposure to even the smallest amount of sunlight deadly. Wow what an amazing story. Better have the tissues ready it is a tear jerker.

I found this book to be predictable that's because I saw the movie. I learned my lesson and that is not to watch the movie while you are reading the book because you already know what's going to happen.

I thought the author did a wonderful job writing this book.

By the way XP is a real disease but it is a rare one.

Well I thought I would write a blog post. I have read 63% of the book Frientimacy by Shasta Nelson.  It is a very good book.

Side Note: I have been very busy lately because I am taking a online class called Starting Your Own Business through Penn Foster. So I have been studying like a mad woman for a while. It is a interesting course. I am learning a lot. In the end I hope to open my own business online. I would like to open my own knitting business.  Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
